Police are probing possible drug links in the death of a father-of-two who was found dead at his Gold Coast home.
Queensland homicide detectives are investigating after Matthew Berry, 37, was killed in a violent attack in his Mount Tamborine this week.
Mr Berry’s former partner made the grisly discovery in the home’s living room on Thursday and called triple-0.
Queensland Police said they are investigating the circumstances of the killing.
The Courier Mail on Saturday reported Mr Berry had served jail time for drug offences and was in 2016 sentenced to two-and-a-half years in prison for two counts of possessing a dangerous drug.
As well, he was due to appear in Southport Magistrates Court next week on charges of possessing a dangerous drug and drug-driving.
Police say they believe Mr Berry, who ran a Gold Coast building business, died on Wednesday before his former partner discovered his body on Thursday after being unable to contact him and went to his home for a welfare check.
Detective inspector Chris Knight on Friday said it’s possible the victim knew the perpetrators, but added the investigation is still in its early days.
Detective Knight on Friday the man had sustained fatal head and upper body injuries.
“The gentleman located was a 37-year-old father to two young children,” he said.
“His life was tragically ended in his own home.
“We’re appealing for public assistance to try and find the person or the people responsible for this matter.”
Detective Knight said specialist scientific and forensic officers were likely to remain at the scene for a number of days as officers piece together the shocking event.

“When first responders arrived, it was very clear there had been violence inflicted on the gentleman,” Inspector Knight said.
“His former partner went to the address, and was unfortunately confronted with that scene, she contacted triple-0.
“She was there to check on his welfare, hadn’t heard from him for a couple of days, but she’s a grieving lady.
“She spent quite a number of hours with detectives, and is assisting us greatly.
“(They) were still in contact, they still had a relationship.”
Detectives are appealing to anyone with relevant information, CCTV or dashcam vision in the vicinity of Tolima Dr, particularly on June 28 to come forward.
