One man decided to allegedly get behind the wheel of a car while drunk on Christmas Day, with predictably destructive consequences.
A man who allegedly crashed his car into a special busway on Christmas Day and then hit a police officer has been arrested.
The wild alleged Christmas Day bender came to a head about 8.45pm when emergency services and the police were called to Adelaide’s O-Bahn busway at the Tea Tree Plaza interchange after reports a vehicle had driven onto the special guided tracks and become stuck.
The driver, a 52-year-old Magill man, allegedly assaulted a female police officer while he was being driven to the Holden Hill Police Station in the city’s outer northeast for a breath test.
The police officer suffered minor injuries to her face, the police allege.
At the station, the man allegedly recorded a blood alcohol reading of 0.254, more than five times the legal limit.
He was arrested and charged with drink-driving, aggravated driving without due care and assault police.
He was issued with an instant loss of licence for 12 months and has been bailed to appear at Adelaide Magistrates Court on March 11, 2024.
